No Renting Roach Motels
I should be studying for finals right now. But instead, I am online looking at listings for 2 bedroom apartments. I may be moving in with a friend in the next couple of months. Our hope is to get something affordable and not too far from campus.
I found a listing for what looked like a great apartment offer on craigslist, and googled it to see if there was a site with more pics and info. I found more stuff on the forrent.com site, and from the pictures and floorplans and property overview, it looked like a really cool place and worth checking out. I called the management, and confirmed the pricing, so everything seemed sweet.
Fortunately, I had the sense to check out a renter review site online, and now know this place is not even worth looking at, not even if they charged half of the already low price. They received the lowest reviews of any apartment complex on there. The universal complaint was theft and vandalism in the supposedly secure parking facility, and roaches and mold in the apartments themselves. No wonder it was so cheap.
I have since found a couple better places, with very high reviews, that I hope to look into after finals. It is very important for me to have a nice place to live. It was already a big decision to decide to to have the one roommate. I don't think I could handle a couple hundred of them that come out at night, shit on my stuff, and then scurry back under the floorboards. Ah...reminds me of the freshman dorm housing at Humboldt....
